Reflections on Pruning Fruit Trees

When growing a fruit tree there must be space to breathe
Crisscrossing branches do not support each other,
Each needing adequate sunlight.
Do not look at a tree as naked
For each bump, bud and twist tells the future,
A clean cut will not harm but there must be balance.
You do not want the fruit to break a limb,
So choose wisely which to cut or leave to grow.
Always find the eyes of the branches,
They must be gazing into you as you trim.
Remember to tenderly touch each branch giving thanks to the life you are shaping.
Less is more,
So be precise with your movements.
Recognize each unique shape of the tree,
Simply soften the beauty that’s already there.
A giggle goes a long way as you find yourself twisting, turning, bending, climbing and dancing around the tree.
